This Altar Will Not Be Altered

On February 22, 1991, Kim and I were united in holy matrimony in the presence of God and His people at the marriage altar which I now oversee as the lead minister of Calvary Baptist Church. Since that time, other couples have come here and established beautiful families before God. That is why I was saddened to read that Eliot Spitzer went on record as the Nation’s first Governor who will recommend legislation to enact same-sex marriage in New York State. The biggest problem (there are many) I have with this proposed legislation is that it would have to altar the definition of marriage and ultimately the definition of what a family is. Altering the definitions of the sacred institutions of marriage and family because of variant sexual practices in our society is wrong. I pray that our legislators will recognize this when they receive these legislative proposals. Even if the laws are altered to redefine marriage and family, this church altar, out of respect for the Holy, will not be altered.
