Good Friday Greeting
March 21, 2008 07:46 AM
God understands the severity of sin better than any of us ever will. God also understands love better than any of us ever will because He is Love.
So, because of the severity of our sinful condition, God was not casual in responding to this need. He gave His Son to suffer and sacrifice Himself on the cruel cross so that we might be saved if we trust in Him. On this Good Friday, let’s remind ourselves of what God did so that our sin could be taken away. Instead of being self-righteous, let us humble ourselves and acknowledge unconfessed sin in our lives to Him, knowing that He will forgive. Instead of taken sin lightly, let’s always remember to view it in light of the cross, which exposes it as God sees it. Christians have their own set of “designer sins” (jealousy, gossip, murmering, and a host of other things) that are just as despicable in God’s eyes as all other sins. Praise God they can all be forgiven through the cross.
And, remember, that while we were in our sinful condition, God was not casual in displaying His love toward you. Matter of fact, the cross is the most sacrificial and extravagant outpouring of love that will ever be recorded in the annals of time and eternity. Since God loved us so much, we ought to love Him with all our heart, soul, and strength. Since God loved us, we ought to love each other. Let God’s love envelope you and bring an end to those polarized relationships that seem to about in so many Christian circles. Call someone whom you have experienced tension with and remind them that you love them and are praying for them. Then it really could be a Good Friday.
Also, remember that while today is Friday, Sunday’s coming! Let’s pray that God will bring many people into our churches this Easter Sunday and that God will enable everyone in the church, on both sides of the platform, to display Christ. As visitors see the Lord, may the Spirit of the Living God draw many to salvation. May we be so busy in discipleship in the weeks following Easter Sunday that we don’t have time for the nonsense that so easily envelops so many assemblies.
May God grant you a very special Good Friday.
